If your ancestors came to the US by sea, chances are, the Montauk Light House was the first thing they saw at the coast of the land of promise. Located at the easternmost point of Long Island, the Lighthouse was the first public works project of the new United States. Due to prevailing winds in winter, shippers approaching from the sea needed a lighthouse at the end of Long Island to guide them along the south side into New York harbor. Ezra L'Hommedieu advised President George Washington, chose the side, and designed the lighthouse. State Congress authorized the construction on April 12, 1792.
Montauk Light House is a designated National Historic Landmark. It is surrounded by a wonderful 800 acre State Park. Serene, authentic, and salty Montauk is considered one of the best surfing places on Long Island.
This photo was made on a day after a storm, on a bright spring evening. Surrounded by the surfers, I decided to capture the last sun-touch of the day. This panorama is made of a few photographs with long exposure.Blue Heron
This was supposed to be a banal Connectquot river fall panoramic photo-shot. Battling the wind, I increased my shutter speed. Suddenly, I heard something big approaching from behind. In a split second my instincts got in-tuned. I turned my head. I saw a gigantic pterodactyl flying towards me. Sobering from the adrenaline shock, I realized it was going to get into my frame. I increased my shutter speed further to 1/650, and started to shot my panorama. By the time I had gotten to the right side the Blue Heron was in the frame. I thank the majestic creature and started to pack my backpack.
This is all in camera panorama with no elements added in post product.
